i agree. they had a cool direction with the 3. and this new one seems in keeping with the Evade family but mostly the 1 and 2.

We had a more modern, squared off design and now we’re back to swoopy Geiger venting and tails at a heavier weight (strap half a box of paperclips to your head and tell me it’s not noticeable) . For 2.6% cooling?

Also the only reason Specialized isn’t saying it’s the fastest helmet they’ve done is because it isn’t. And this pullback from aero is the same mistake they made killing the Venge. They filled the needs of their market and are sacrificing identity to try and reach new customers.

I dunno. I’m annoyed about the Ferrari Luce, and I think it’s irking me for some of the same reasons here. Build with intentionality and keep product personalities distinct. Otherwise it’s just grey goo….

I couldn’t agree more. I have a POC helmet and a Prevail 3. The POC does a great job of absorbing sweat and keeping it out of my eyes. After 20 minutes in my Prevail I’m getting sweat in my eyes and on my glasses. I think the root cause is: A) Prevail pads are thinner and hold less water, B) Prevail pads have plastic on the backside of the pads so moisture can’t easily move through the pad and evaporate.

I have been a Specialized stan for quite a while, currently own an Evade and two Prevail helmets. But my next helmet may be another brand because no matter what the advertisements say, they can’t prevent sweat from pouring down my face and glasses.

The 4 even has subtle Giro Synthe vibes, plus it only looks good with that giant center panel painted black in that one photo. I do like that they brought back the SpeshyScoop, but that’s about it.

I wonder what the actual cost is to make these helmets, in the quantities they order. Maybe $15? I’m assuming the ratcheting adjuster is the most expensive component.

Yeah, I get that inflation affects everything, but with the margin on these things, they could’ve gone a little easier on consumers.
