Covid 19 awareness and vaccination campaigns
In order to address Covid 19 inequalities, AAE Organised vaccination campaigns in the most remote villages; we collaborated with the Sub-county hospitals to avail the vaccines to the local dispensaries that have no electricity, using cool boxes
The CBO mapped out organized and mobilized three centers for this activity in Makueni County, Kenya (Utuneni dispensary, ACK Kwa Ndangi Dispensary, and Muthwani dispensary) in September and October 2021 each dispensary was covered a radius of about five kilometers
Community mobilization was done through the door to door awareness by volunteers, announcements through schools, churches, village elders and one on one encounter on the importance of turning out for the vaccination campaign
Through the campaigns, a total of 1,896 community members have been vaccinated against Covid 19. The CBO collaborated with national and vernacular media outlets for general public awareness and to alleviate the stigma associated with coronavirus vaccine.
During the campaigns, masks were shared out to the community members particularly the most vulnerable (elderly, PWDs, those from poorest households) since most could not afford and had to repeat the same mask several times before acquiring another.
Youth Sports tournaments were organized to reach the youth through sports. More than 300 youths were reached through this activity.
