AAE has organized dialogues with communities to brainstorm with communities in Makueni county
on the subject “Who is mostly left behind in the development matters in the community?” It
has been discussed the following groups were most left behind in the Makueni communities:

  1. Youths; probably due to ignorance, lack of jobs which could earn them income, drug abuse
  2. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs); mostly came as afterthoughts, and majorly lacked assistants
    to help them access the development venues and activities. Minimum government support
    and low self-esteem
  3. Senior citizens; The old people at home require much care, many lack the proper
    information on development matters, have little energy and inadequate resources to engage
    in development activities
  4. Women and children, and
  5. Minority group (Ngulya)

    AAE as SGD champions Makueni County has been at the forefront in the localization of the SDGs. In
    collaboration with the Makueni County Directorate of Socio-economic Planning this has ensured
    that strategic priorities are mainstreamed in government programs and projects geared towards
    the attainment of the SDGs.
    In collaboration with SDGs Forum Kenya, the County departments AAE carried out SDGs Policy
    Dialogue in Makueni County to sensitize county government staff selected members of the community
    on SDGs and community voices in relation to development needs.

The key participants in the dialogue were;
i. Sector Working Group Members
ii. SDGs Coordination Directorate State Department for Economic Planning.
iii. The Kenya SDGs Forum Representatives
iv. The Sub County and Ward Administrators, and
v. Community members

i. Provision of labor and community resources
ii. Sustain development projects in the area
iii. Champion climate change e.g. planting trees
iv. Identify development leaders
