Community engagement and inclusion of marginalized groups is a key pillar of the Kenyan
Constitution and Vision 2030. It is critical in localizing the SDGs at grassroots levels, promoting
democracy, ownership, and inclusivity in decision-making processes.
Through community awareness forums and vernacular radio stations, AAE created awareness on
SDGS;
- SDGs could help communities in achieving good leadership i.e having a good
representation in the government, - Having development projects anchored on the SDGs
Emphasis was; - Seminars on development and public participation to be enhanced
- Some projects were not implemented due to a lack of follow-up and cases of corruption in some
county administration - Enhance transparency in the project implementation with full disclosure (proper
communication and update to the community on the public participation events)
Climate Action, April 2023
Climate change has become part and parcel of the current world, women, children, and PWDs are
the most affected by climate change at the grassroots levels. We mobilize communities to take
charge of their climate mitigation activities and to own the process through environmental
conservation and restoration. So far, as of April 2023, more than 60,000 seedlings have been
planted and the legacy goes on.
AAE has started an ambitious greening program to mitigate climate change we target to plant more
than two million trees in Makueni County by 2027 to help increase the forest cover in Makueni
County to at least 10%. This will be done in public spaces; Schools, churches, police stations,
Chief’s camps, hospitals, gullies, forests, and farmlands through an agroforestry approach. Tree
nurseries have been established with fifteen community groups.
Through our sustainable ecosystem units, you can adopt a village and make it climate change
secure. Get in touch with us for more information.
